This is a list of things that we believe we need to do to reach our goals. When something listed here is done it should be removed from the list, and if appropriate recorded on the Wikevent:Milestones page.

Add your favorite artist

Please just go ahead and do it. Type the name of a band or a team or a singer or whoever in the search box at left and click "Go". If you get a page saying the artist doesn't exist yet then please please please go ahead and build the page. On the edit page click "Artist" to insert a template. Just put the artists name and a URL in, or fill in as much information as you like.

Convert Raw listings

We invite our contributors to add event data as raw listings to make it as easy as possible, but to take full advantage of our Structured Data the listings should be placed on Event pages.

If you feel like doing something, but don't know what then please have look at the artist and venue pages and clean them up. If you find a page that has raw listings which need to be structred, please add it to the Category:Has raw listings.

Fix up MediaWiki pages

  • Templates, etc, on the edit page - Wikitravel has helpful tools at the bottom of each edit page. We should have that too.

Data Mining

There are a number of sources of calendar data on the web. We should look into which ones we could use for starter data.

Graphic Design

We should all be on the lookout for improvements to be made in the graphic presentation of the site. Those of us with graphics skill can fix things as they find them, or upload suggestions in image form. The rest of us can critique.

Logo

For the moment we're using the vCalendar icon from Everaldo Coelho's CrystalClear icons for KDE (which he released under the GNU LGPL). Frankly it's pretty nice and we wouldn't mind keeping a derivative of it. Everaldo has been contacted (using the form on his web page) about possibly providing an SVG file for us to adapt. If we're really lucky he might offer to make a logo for us.

Existing Software and Mediawiki extensions to deploy

  • Images - we have to have the ability to add images
  • Interwiki Links - We need to get interwiki links working, especially for Wikitravel.
  • OpenID - We'd like to encourage more Wikitravellers to contribute. OpenID that allows single-sign-on between the two sites should help a lot.

  • Cache404 - This doesn't seem seem to be a very high priority until we have quite a bit more traffic than at this writing.

Software and MediaWiki extensions to code

  • Automatic Cross-referencing When somebody enters an event for an artist it should be automatically redirected to the same event on the Venue page.
  • RDF Listings - we need a shared RDF vocabulary with Wikitravel for listings, so that we can coordinate our listings with theirs.
  • Per-artist/venue RSS feeds - Not only would this be a useful tool for users, it would be a fantastic promotional tool for Wikevent.
  • TimezoneBot - Timezones should be more automated.
  • Mailing List Bot - many artists and venues have concert mailing lists. We should have a simple (perhaps procmail based) bot that puts updates in the associated raw listing area of the correct artist or venue page.
  • iCalendar parser - for parsing iCalendar data out of a MediaWiki article. This will allow us to start pulling event data out of venue and presenter pages so that it can be cross-referenced.
