Real regex in the spam filter

Tuesday, 28 August 2007, 12:00am - 1:00am

I was adding spammy site info to the regex filter this morning when it occurred to me that it's pretty pointless to have a filter with the CPU expense of regular expressions when we're just adding specific site info in simple strings. So, I went to work on a regex that would match any of the recent bot spam strings. I've installed this new pattern in the local text blacklist file, since it didn't seem to work in my test rig from within the article itself.

Please let me know if any non-spam edits get blocked by this.

Thanks!
