I haven't written here in some time, but not because I haven't been busy. I have been doing a lot of work in the background lately finishing some of the features required to make this site work. One of the most important features we need here of course is to offer the ability to search for events, especially by place.

Well, as of a few days ago the feature exists. For example, you can search for all events in Chicago or all events in San Diego.

Clearly there are some refinements required, but on the whole it works!

Some of the future ideas for search include inclusion of Categories and lots of different sorting options.

Now that the site is bascially useable it becomes more and more likely that it will become used by more than the handful of us who have been using it so far. Clearly that's a good thing, but it will also mean that we'll have to move to a new hosting arraingment, since at the moment we're living on borrowed server space.

With this in mind I've opened an AdSense account and placed the ads in a little box in the left column. After a week of runing the proceeds so far have been $0.00, which I suppose is not too surprising. However should we start getting enough traffic to make our current host want to boot us, then that number should go up too, and we'll be able to afford better digs.

Meanwhile I'm busy working on an extension which should allow users to turn off the ads for their own user pages, or alternatively add their own AsSense ID. Of course to make any money users will have to make their user pages really useful in helping users find out about fun, cool, informative, and otherwise interesting Events.
