HierarchyBot is done!

Wednesday, 31 January 2007, 12:45pm - 1:45pm

The Wikevent geographical hierachy is complete, although certainly not finished. This means that you should be able to navigate to any city or village with a UN LOCODE from the continents listed on the .

I say it's not finished because some of our places have a rather large number of listed, we really should eventually organize these into metropolitain regions within which people are likely to be willing to travel for a concert, etc.

That said this is still a significant milestone, since it means that the Bot will no longer be hoggin bandwith, and that our bot-writing attention can be turned to artist and venue bots.

Hey, so now that the HierarchyBot has done its thing let's call it live!

There is still a lot to do. In fact that's an understatement, but we do have a more-or-less useable product here. Actually, let's take a step back from that statement and say that we have a more-or-less useable tool for building a product. There's still lots and lots of work to do.

One of the main things we need to do at this point is to get the word out. For the next couple of days I'm probably going to turn my attention to creating some promotional materials, like calling cards for editors, flyers to print out and distribute, and maybe just maybe tee-shirts.

Wouldn't it be neat to do a compilation album someday?

I'd like to add a big thank you to Evan Prodromou of for his kind words about what we're trying to do here.
