Help:How to add an artist
From Wikevent
This page is about adding an artist. To add a venue or event you'll need to read Wikevent:How to add a venue and Wikevent:How to add an event, respectively.
Introduction
Before we start, just a few words about conventions used here on Wikevent. "Artists", "presenters, "bands" etc are all classified as "artists". Anybody or anything that could be described as a "who" as opposed to a "what" or a "where" is an "artist". Good, now we've got that out of the way....
Before you try add a new artist it's a good idea to ensure that this artist does not already exist in Wikevent. The easiest way to do this is to type the name of the artist into the search box in the left hand side menu bar.
(Be sure to correctly capitalize the name of the artist/presenter. The convention here on Wikevent is to capitalize all words except for "the", "and", "of" ect. The exception is if the first word of an event is "the" then the "t" is capitalized - like "The Four Tops". If you have any doubts then have a look at our Category:Who page to see how other artists are formatted. The other exception to the capitalization guideline above is if a specific artist chooses to use lower-case letters like "k.d. lang".)
Anyway! If your exact chosen artist is not found, the search results page may show various "best guesses". If any of these results are the artist you want then your job here is done Tonto! If none of the "Article title matches" or "Page text matches" are what you want then at the top of the page there'll be a bit of text saying "There is no page titled "<your chosen artist>". You can create this page.". The "You can create this page." text is a link. If you click on this link that opens a new page for "<your chosen artist>". Cool or what!
You'll now be presented with a (fairly) blank page. There's various preformatted "templates" available to you now. The ones that are relevant here are "Artist", "Team", "Player", "Speaker", and "Organizer". Clicking on any of these "template" links with populate the text boxy area with various arcane tags and things.
The best thing to do is to fill in "<your chosen artist>" in between the double quote marks next to the "name" tag and the artist's website address (if you have it) in between the double quote marks next to the "url" tag.
That's pretty all there is to it! All that's left for you to do now is to click on the "Save page" button at the bottom of the page and you are done!
