Why I think Wikevent is an amazing idea
I've been around since the very beginning of Wikevent, almost as soon as a I received an email from Mark that the site was up-and-running.
After a lot of reflection, I realized that Wikevent has enormous potential to decrease the size of social structures dramatically. Wikevent can enable millions, potentially billions, people to learn more about what's going on in their own neighborhoods, or a man in Hicktown, USA could learn about a Blues Festival in Shanghai seven months in advance of a trip.
What's more, is that there are so many ways to use the data available on Wikevent it's unbelievable! You could print out the calendars, or an expat magazine in Lucerne could republish the calendars, download the latest rock concert to your own calendar program, and what I find particularly amazing – download and save our calendars to your very own iPod!
Imagine listening to Three Doors Down, or whoever, on your iPod. Suddenly, you think to yourself "I wonder when they're coming to town." Well, why wait!? Check your iPod's iCal feature and you'll know instantly, if you downloaded the calendar from Wikevent.
